As layoffs ravage the startup world, the micromobility industry, which has long struggled to be profitable, is being hit. Just weeks after Bird laid off 23% of its staff, the next round of industry layoffs affects Voi and Superpedestrian, according to LinkedIn posts from former and current employees.
??at Voi Technology, we announced today that we are further increasing our focus on profitability and that we aim to reduce head office costs by 25% from current levels,? said Mattias Hermansson, chief financial officer and deputy chief executive of Voi, on LinkedIn on Wednesday. ?We are primarily focused on reducing external expenses, but unfortunately 35 currently occupied headquarters-related positions (~10%) are affected.?
Hermansson went on to say that Voi is in a strong financial position after cutting spending in the first half in response to ?the changing environment for growth capital? and does not ?anticipate any additional capital raises in the foreseeable future.?
Superpedestrian has confirmed to TechCrunch that it will reduce the size of its global team by 7%. The company hasn?t confirmed to TechCrunch the exact number of staff this equates to, but going off Superpedestrian?s LinkedIn page, which shows a total of 263 employees, the number of layoffs could be around 18 staff members. personal.
?This is part of a company-wide effort to reduce our costs and accelerate the path to profitability,? read a statement from Superpedestrian. ?We continue our commitment to provide superior services to the cities where we operate our shared scooter fleets.?
